Assistant Needed.

We are looking for an assistant to join us in Scotland next summer!

June 16th - 23rd, 2023

Hi there. I am needing some help with the 2023 Scotland Artist Retreat.

Please read the following THOROUGHLY before Applying.

WHATS INCLUDED:

  • All meals, snacks, beverages, ground transportation from the airport to the castle, and lodging in the Gardeners Cottage on Brodie Castle Grounds.

    Some entertainment, artist demos, a few painting opportunities and a few excursions.

WHATS NOT INCLUDED:

  • Transportation from the Brodie Castle to the airport

  • Airfare

  • Our vans for you to use

  • Keys to the castle or stables

  • Meals or alcoholic beverages at restaurants or pubs

  • Personal items, toothpaste, etc.

THE WORK:

You will be doing the following first and foremost, so for those thinking that this is an artist residency or a time for you to to catch up on painting or art making, I am afraid that this is just not the case. While there will be a little time here and there for you to do some painting, the majority of your time will be working with me to make sure everything runs smoothly and making all those attending the retreat comfortable and as happy as possible.

Below is a list of most of the duties and expectations that go along with being an assistant at the Scotland Artist Retreat at Brodie Castle.

  • Must be organized and flexible

  • Will need to be able to quickly set up workstations and material's tables to prepare for upcoming workshops

  • Painting experience and teaching knowledge a huge plus but not required

  • Need to be able to prepare stables for demos and artist talks

  • Must be able to climb several flights of stairs and walk on hilly and unsteady, possibly wet ground.

  • Will need to set up for Welcome reception and place items in each room on the first day

  • Will need to organize kitchen for continental breakfasts and take inventory to see what may need to be replaced on the next grocery store (Tesco) run.

  • Need to make coffee in the early morning and set out continental breakfast items.

  • May need to help set up tables for meals and set out glasses for wine.

  • Will need to cater to participants artistic and non-artistic needs when they may arise. Someone may need an extra towel, or a fan for their room, trashbags…etc.

  • Will need to empty trash when needed in kitchen and also help to clean up Stables Studios and maintain tables.

  • Will need to be able to set up for the end of the retreat art show

  • Must be able to prepare the beds (replace sheets and towels for new guest artists who will be staying in the Gardeners Cottage on various nights with you. (you will have your own bedroom)

  • Help visiting artists with any materials they need to conduct their workshop or demonstrations/presentations

  • Take care of emergencies if they arise

  • Help me to stay organized!!!

  • Take on other responsibilities that may arise unexpectedly.

So…you will be busy, as you can see, helping to run the retreat…and keeping me calm too. Oh, and yes, there will be a few moments where you will be able to paint a little.
