Demonstration and Artist Talk by Scottish Figurative Painter, Alan McGowan at Brodie Castle Stables
During our stay at Brodie Castle in 2022, we had access to the Brodie Castle Stables located just steps away from the castle to use as our art studio.
All artist retreat participants were invited to exhibit work completed while staying at Brodie Castle in the Stables during the end of the retreat exhibition the last night of the retreat. We Listened to a wonderful Scottish musician play during our exhibition.
The above photo, taken by Gena Brodie Robbins, reflects the true magic of the Brodie Castle Stables. The castle stables are used for many things in 2022 such as exhibits, meetings, receptions, etc. Here, it is being used for a painting demonstration by artist, Alan McGowan, during the Castle Artist Retreat at Brodie Castle.
We hope the Summer 2024 Artist Retreat will allow us to have the opportunity to use the stables as out studio. If not, we will find a location to near the castle as a place wear we can meet and work.

Walk the trails and visit the pond and garden brimming with wildlife, then head to the stables studio for a morning, afternoon, or evening of creativity. The Brodie Castle Stables is a truly historical and magical space where we will not only create individually and as a group but will also watch and listen to master artists as they share their expertise and techniques with you. The studios are available for you to use at your leisure day and night, and if you decide that the day travels to Elgin Cathedral, the Moray Coast beaches and fishing villages, cliffs, and ruins aren’t for you to visit and paint for the day, then your studio, the castle, and its breathtaking grounds are there for you to enjoy on those travel days. You will have allotted time to work in the stables, but will also have the option to spend more time at the castle and stables if you wish. This is YOUR artist retreat!
